We study how biodiversity forms, and why it varies.

Research

We are fascinated by biodiversity—how it forms and why it varies. We study population differentiation and the formation of new species, how closely related species interact and live together, and the causes of latitudinal gradients in diversity. We also describe the natural history of poorly known species and species of conservation concern.

Teaching

In my teaching, I incorporate active, project-based learning to explore all aspects of biodiversity, from evolution to ecology to conservation. I am a strong advocate for learning through hands-on field experience.
