"Building the tools to enable discovery"
Research: My group develops technologies and computational methods to answer big questions in biology that were previously inaccessible. Can we use algae to clean up contaminated water? Why did mammals evolve a complex program to silence certain genes? To get at these and other questions we are developing wet and dry lab tools that give us unprecedented insight into the underlying science.
Teaching: We are generating biological data at an unprecedented rate, for the most part, simply because it is cheap and therefore we can. My teaching revolves around systematic approaches to interrogate biology and focuses on the interplay between modern technologies and bioinformatics.
