The Al Downe Lecture is funded from the Al Downe Memorial Fund which was initially established in 2007 via a generous donation from a former student in order to provide an opportunity for Queen’s students to experience the inspiration and knowledge of a high profile Lecturer. Subsequently the Fund has attracted donations from other students, colleagues, friends and family.

The Kingston chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) is committed to promoting environmental and conservation endeavors in the Kingston area. The society is composed entirely of volunteers from the community who meet weekly to discuss relevant current events, host guest speakers, and organize the community outreach programs for which the SCB has become well known.

The Biology Graduate Student Council aims to represent the interests and needs of biology graduate students and to keep them informed about university and departmental issues. The Society provides a forum for all biology graduate students to voice their opinions on matters important to them.

We are a diverse science department dedicated to research and academic excellence. Our research spans a wide array of biological disciplines including plant sciences, biochemistry, proteomics, cell and molecular biology, animal physiology, limnology, evolution, ecology and behaviour. Specifically, the Biology Department Student Council is your connection to the biology department and faculty. We run events for students like Beer with Profs, BEWICS sports teams, a Biology Formal and Career Nights.

Our Molecular and Cellular Integrative Biology (MCIB) research group has informal meetings every Tuesday at 11:30 am in BioSciences 3110. Each week a different lab group presents their most recent findings in a 30 to 45 min seminar. followed by a discussion.

Departmental seminars usually take palce on Friday's at 12:30 pm in Room 1102 (or 3110) in the BioSciences Complex. The Departmental Seminar Coordinator for 2019-20 is Chris Moyes. Please contact him if you have ideas for a speaker or wish to volunteer to give a seminar.

The Queen's University Biological Station (QUBS) is one of the premier scientific field research and teaching stations in Canada. For almost 70 years, scores of researchers and students have gathered at QUBS to conduct leading-edge studies of flora and fauna and to participate in courses spanning ecology, evolution, conservation, geography, and the environmental sciences.
