Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Paleolimnology and Environmental Change, Department of Biology and School of Environmental Studies

The Department of Biology and the School of Environmental Studies at Queen’s University jointly invite applications for a tenured Tier 1 Canada Research Chair at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with specialization in paleolimnology, with a preferred
starting date of July 1, 2026.
The Chair will be expected to lead an internationally recognized program in paleolimnology and environmental change. The successful applicant will join the Paleoecological Environmental Assessment and Research Lab (PEARL), a large group of paleolimnologists studying environmental change in lakes and rivers. Research at PEARL has involved both fundamental and applied projects, mainly dealing with assessing ecosystem health associated with the impacts of human disturbances from mining, agriculture, forestry, urbanization and industry on lake ecosystems, consistent with the focus on UN Sustainable Development Goals relevant to sound policy decisions.

The position is a full-time tenure-track/tenured position at Assistant Professor or early Associate Professor rank, with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2024. This Queen’s National Scholar (QNS) position in Indigenous Science is one of seven being recruited this year in support of Queen’s interdisciplinary Indigenous Studies Program and new Major and Joint-Honours in Indigenous Studies. Winter 2026 Teaching Fellowship
BIOL103 Fundamentals of Biology - Organisms to Ecosystems
The Department of Biology at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching part of a course on Fundamentals of Biology – Organisms to Ecosystems as a co-teaching fellowship (i.e., half of a regular 0.5 course). The maximum enrolment of the course is 1522 students, with two weekly 50-minute lectures and one weekly 90-minute lab session, and up to 25 students in each tutorial section. The teaching fellow would be responsible for delivering up to 24 lectures between the fourth and tenth weeks of the semester. The position will not require development of lecture or tutorial materials, as current instructors can provide these. This is a winter term appointment for the period January 1 to the end of April 2026.
