2023–24 Tuition and Fees

Graduate students who do not enrol in the payment plan must pay tuition and fees by the due date of each term enrolled: 

  • Fall Term: September 30
  • Winter Term: January 10
  • Summer Term: May 1

MSc and PhD

Tuition and fees for Masters and PhD

**Full-time students beginning their program summer term will be initially assessed $132.32 in ancillary fees, followed by the remaining amount in the fall term. 

***The University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is applied at the single rate to all International Students. Coverage for dependent family members who will be in Canada with you is mandatory at an additional cost. 

 

FUNDING

The Department of Biology guarantees minimum financial support of: 

  • $24,300 / year for MSc students for two years.
  • $26,300 / year for PhD students for four years.

However, funding for 2024-2025 will be at least:

  • $25,750 / year for MSc students for two years.
  • $27,750 / year for PhD students for four years.

The MSc Funding Package consists of (per year)

  • $6,000 - Queen's Graduate Award
  • $500 - School of Graduate Studies and Post Graduate Affairs Supplement
  • $8,584 - 3 Teaching Assistantships
  • $3,600 - Department Funding
  • $7,066 - Supervisor Funding

The PhD Funding Package consists of (per year):

  • $6,000 - Queen's Graduate Award
  • $500 - School of Graduate Studies and Post Graduate Affairs Supplement
  • $8,584 - 3 Teaching Assistantships
  • $3,975 - Department Funding
  • $8,691 - Supervisor Funding

Students who hold NSERC funding at the time of admission will receive an automatic top-up of $5,000 for MSc students and $10,000 for PhD students, however, these amounts will likely increase for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Should you win a major scholarship, the contribution from your supervisor and the university may be reduced. Students who received offers of acceptance from other universities, and/or are members of minority groups may receive an additional top-up.

Note that you will be expected to pay tuition and ancillary fees from this stipend, according to the current university guidelines. 

Teaching Assistantships consist of 65 hours each at $44.02 an hour, which includes 7% vacation pay and in lieu of benefits.  There may be the opportunity to obtain a top-up Teaching Assistantship should you choose to take on an additional TAship. Teaching Assistants are part of the PSAC Union
