We investigate plant evolution in response to environmental stress.

Research

What ecological and genetic factors allow a species to rapidly expand its previously restricted geographic range? What prevents a population from evolving adaptations in the face of environmental change? To understand the limits of evolution we study plants in the field, under common glasshouse conditions, at the genomic level, and using experimental selection.

Teaching

My teaching explores how the historical and contemporary variation of populations can be studied to reveal the evolutionary mechanisms that generate and maintain biodiversity. We study both natural and anthropogenically-constructed environments to develop skills in critical thinking, experimental design, data science and communication. My classes are a respectful, inclusive and collaborative environment for all to expand the limits of their scientific knowledge and skill.
